During a recent reunion in the Washington area, Robert "Tommy" Thompson, 80, from San Diego, found a file photo of himself as a World War II enlisted seaman in the digital files at the Navy Memorial Museum. Thompson's boat was torpedoed by the Germans in Arctic waters and he was taken prisoner July 5, 1942, and released April 16, 1945. His weight was 145 when he was captured. When his prison camp was liberated he weighed 97 pounds.
