Time to look ahead to the big swim meet at United Township Saturday, lots of local teams are participating. Here are five items of interest to be on the look out for.
1. 50 yard free -- This is where the big names are. Doh, Bishop, Stecker, Gill, this will be a fast race packed with excitement.
2. 400 freestyle relay -- This is the event where the host Panthers could make some noise.
3. Galesburg and Moline will battle for the title -- The Streaks and Maroons are the class of this meet. Other surprise contenders could be PV, Central and Morrison.
4. Speaking of Central keep your eyes out for Mary Betsworth -- The Blue Devil junior isn't highly rated in the Iowa Power Rankings this year, but in 2008 she was in the to 20 at state in the 100 and 200 free.
5. Before the swimming begins -- Yes, I know its diving. And yes, I know Galesburg technically isn't in our coverage area. But every time I see a diving result, Kelly Napier's name is at the top. Grab yourself a chance to see her do her thing.
6. Bonus time -- Moline and Morrison had a dual Tuesday. So did North and Central. As one of the bigger local meets, look for lineup changes for all four schools in preparation for the postseason.
