PEORIA, Ill. - It was the small schools that fared the best among area teams at Saturday's Illinois state cross country meet.
Sterling Newman won the Class 1A boys event, edging Canton by a point. Dylan Reyes finished fifth individually for the Comets, clocking in at 15 minutes, 20 seconds.
The Galesburg boys placed eighth in 2A, paced by Luke Junk, who finished 24th.
United Township junior Cody Webster came in 25th in 3A at 15:01. Moline's Michael Castel (15:07) and Aleksandar Stojanovic (15:08) were 31st and 32nd.
On the girls side, Geneseo finished fourth among 2A teams, led by Danielle Dewey.
Stephanie Saey (18:07) crossed the finish line seventh for Galesburg.
In 3A, Moline's Hayley Verbeke finished 35th in 18:12.
