The Team USA offense is getting hotter, and the defense stingier.
And Chasson Randle has progressed right along with his U16 teammates during this week's FIBA Americas Championship in Argentina.
The Rock Island junior-to-be had his most productive game yet Friday, as Team USA pounded Puerto Rico 126-73 and advanced to the semifinals of the medal round.
Randle was one of six American players to score in double figures, netting seven of his 10 points after halftime. He also grabbed five rebounds and made a steal.
That followed his nine-point effort Thursday, which had the 16-year-old brimming with confidence.
"You've got the 12 best players in the country at our age group, and we're going to show that while we're here," Randle said. "I keep progressing."
With the win Friday, Team USA (3-0) moves on to a semifinal against Canada, which was defeated by Argentina in overtime. Today's game is scheduled for 5 p.m.
The two semifinal winners will clinch spots in next year's FIBA World Championship in Germany.
A final spot in that tournament will be awarded to the winner of Sunday's bronze-medal game.
A gold medal in the Americas Championship is within reach for Team USA.
The Americans shot 62 percent from the field and outscored the Puerto Ricans 70-28 in the paint.
Randle hit two of his three 3-point attempts and did all his damage in less than 17 minutes.
