Protecting against danger
As rivers in the area slowly return to normal after a long season of flooding, it’s more important than ever to keep safety in mind.
During the floods, recreational boating was prohibited on rivers and streams in many areas as well as the Mississippi River from mile marker 169 to 482.9, an area from Rock Island to St. Louis, by the U.S. Coast Guard.
The Iowa Department of Natural Resources advised boaters, kayakers and canoeists to avoid boating on rivers and flood-control reservoirs until water levels returned to a more normal level. And even then, there will be extra debris to watch out for in coming weeks.
