IOWA CITY — Authorities have seized 23 dogs from a house in Amana, and the dogs’ owners have been charged with animal neglect.

Johnson County sheriff’s deputies went to the house May 31 after getting a report that dogs there were being neglected.

Officials with the sheriff’s office say deputies found four dogs locked in a garage and nine dogs locked in the basement. They say there also were 10 dogs running loose on the property.

Officials say the floors of the basement and garage were covered in feces and the dogs had little food and water.

Officials say five of the dogs had to be euthanized.

The dogs’ owners, Joseph Coker and Connie Tresslar, have each been charged with two counts of animal neglect.
