While I tend to agree that the Animal Liberation Front, or ALF, has the potential to do more harm than good, I support Carrie Feldman and Scott DeMuth’s decision to resist grand juries. Pointing out that the activists did not participate in grand jury abolition movements seems moot. Spending time fighting against severe animal and environmental cruelty should hold precedence to abusive justice system proceedings. The lives of all living things are at stake when defending the Earth Liberation Front, or ELF, or ALF.
Also, the grand jury system has been questioned and fought against in the past and should continue to be fought against now. In the 19th century, the Supreme Court ruled that states were not required to use grand juries. Thus far, 10 states have given legislative power to abolish grand juries. Iowa is on that list. DeMuth’s and Feldman’s “life, liberty, and property” has been taken away, because they believe in their own autonomy more than the federal government does.
