Several municipal offices in Muscatine and Cedar counties were filled by write-in candidates whose names were unavailable Tuesday night from election officials.
In Atalissa, Joe Blick was elected mayor with 7 write-in votes, over Ron McMichael, who received 2 write-ins. Elected to council were Michael Haller, on the ballot with 19 votes and Jerrod McMichael, with 6 write-in votes, over Carol O'Neal who received 4 write-in votes.
In Conesville, Sue O'Donnell received 46 votes on the ballot, while Saul Ponce was elected with 40 write-in votes over Theodore Lyon with 34 write-ins and Dustin Juhl with 19 write-ins.
In Nichols, Joe Church and Jim Fulcher tied with 3 write-in votes each for mayor, while Marvin Wilson and Sonya Wilson each received 2 write-in votes. The Muscatine County Board of Supervisors will draw a name among the top two for mayor when it does the vote canvass Monday.
For Nichols council, Cindy Massey was elected to the fifth council position with 24 votes, to join balloted candidates Russell E. Grim, 41 votes; Richard R. Hillyer, 45 votes; Ron Oostendorp, 42 votes; and Marvin F. Wilson, 37 votes.
In Mechanicsville, Calvin Paup was elected to one of two council seats with 88 write-in votes to join Deanna Cook on the council, with 173 votes. Other candidates on the ballot were Doyle Pickering, 22 votes, and Lorraine Polhamus, 58 votes. Rob Davis received 64 write-ins.
