Davenport police have released the name of the man they believe is the triggerman from a shooting Monday that left one man dead and another injured.

Robert Floyd Mason, 24, of Davenport is wanted on charges of murder first-degree, attempted murder, willful injury with serious injury and intimidation with a weapon, Davenport police Capt. David Struckman said Thursday.

Albert Mayweathers, 31, of Davenport died of his wounds, while Darrius Brown, 38, of Milan, Ill., was hospitalized in serious condition.

The shooting happened in the 1100 block of Tremont Avenue shortly after 8 p.m. Monday.

Struckman said that the two men were sitting in a parked van when a man walking on the east side of the sidewalk approached the vehicle from the rear and fired into it through the open passenger side window.

The driver has not been identified, but Struckman said the vehicle was driven to an alley between Tremont and Arlington avenues. Mayweathers and Brown then got out of the van and collapsed on the ground.

Both victims were taken to Genesis Medical Center-East Rusholme Street, Davenport.

Meanwhile, federal authorities have arrested a man who allegedly organized the drug deal that led to the shooting.

Walter Deon-Latrell Baylor, 33, of Davenport was taken into custody Wednesday for a violation of his supervised release. In the federal documents detailing Baylor's violations, authorities said he organized the drug deal that led to the shooting.

According to the report from a federal probation officer, Baylor was there when the shooting occurred. After several hours of questioning, Baylor provided the name of the shooter.

Both Mason and Baylor were cited for public consumption on June 18 after they were found with open containers of beer in Centennial Park, Davenport.

Baylor was sentenced to 112 months, or 9 years and four months, in prison in 2001 after being convicted of possession with the intent to distribute cocaine base. He was released from prison to the Davenport Residential Reentry Center on May 5.

As part of his release, Baylor was to submit to drug testing and treatment, mental health evaluations and to stay away from gangs. He also was to break no laws and answer all questions by his federal probation officer truthfully.

Baylor allegedly lied to his probation officer about the June 18 incident, and had a blood alcohol content at the time of .253. The legal limit is .08.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Mason is asked to call the Davenport Police Department at (563) 326-7979 or Crime Stoppers of the Quad-Cities at (309) 762-9500.
