Here's some of the Quad-City road projects that could affect your morning commute.
• The intersection of Forest Road and Columbia Avenue in Davenport is closed. Work continues on several other areas of Forest Road between Central Park Avenue and High Street.
• McCarthy Improvement has begun working on the outside eastbound lane of 23rd Avenue in Moline from 18th Street A to 25th Street. This outside eastbound lane is closed to traffic and then the construction will move to the westbound lanes. This work includes concrete repair and patching. The duration of the work will be about 2-3 months.
• A construction project to resurface Interstate 80 in Cedar County is restricting the roadway overnights. The project area is between mileposts 257 and 265. Intermittent lane closures are necessary in each direction overnights from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday through Friday and from 9 p.m. Sunday to 6 a.m. Monday. These lane closures can be expected to continue into mid-September.
• One lane of Iowa 92 is closed at the bridge approach in Columbus Junction. The project will repair the roadway on each end of the bridge. Traffic in the area will be assisted by a temporary traffic signal on the open lane.
• A paving project has closed a portion of North 3rd Street in Clinton, Iowa, for two weeks. Resurfacing also is being done on 17th Avenue North. North 3rd Street is closed to through traffic from 7th Avenue North to 18th Avenue North throughout the project. Traffic is detoured from North 3rd Street, east on 7th Avenue North to North 2nd Street. Construction on 17th Avenue North will take place Saturday mornings during low traffic periods. The streets are scheduled to be reopened July 24.
• The Burlington Northern Sante Fe Railroad will be making crossing improvements in East Moline during the next month. Weather permitting, the schedule is:
This week - 17th Street crossing replacement.
July 13 - 10th Street crossing replacement (two crossings)
July 20 - Illinois 5 (Illinois 92) 1.1 miles north of Illinois 84 crossing replacement until July 31.
July 27 - 19th Street (Illinois 84) 0.4 miles north of Illinois 92 crossing replacement until Aug. 7.
Aug. 3 - 13th Street crossing replacement
Formal detours will be signed for Illinois 5 and Illinois Route 84, but the other minor streets will just be closed temporarily.
• Locust Street in Davenport is reduced to one lane in either direction in front of St. Ambrose University.
• Oak Street in Bettendorf is undergoing full-depth pavement patching at several locations between 23rd and 30th streets. This includes repair of the sanitary sewer main at several of the patch locations between 26th and 28th streets. Two-way alternating traffic will be necessary around construction areas.
• U.S. 67 in Rock Island County from Illinois 94 to 78th Avenue expect lane restrictions until Oct. 2
• Pine Street between West 53rd Street and Northwest Boulevard in Davenport is reduced to one lane in each direction for patching. Through lanes are being stopped intermittently to move equipment, so delays can be expected. Work is expected to last several months.
• Southbound 6th Street is closed from Holmes Street in Bettendorf to the Davenport city limits. There will be one-way traffic in the northbound lane. A gap in the paving construction will allow access to Broadlawn Avenue.
• The roadway reconstruction of 23rd Street in Bettendorf is under way from Grant Street to Central Avenue. Stage one will close the road full-width from Grant Street to Coleman Street.
• The westbound lane (Iowa-bound) of Interstate 74 is closed from John Deere Road to the Mississippi River bridge for work that includes bridge repairs and concrete patching. The outside (right) lane is closed. When completed, work will be moved to the inside lanes.
• The ramps are closed at the Avenue of the Cities to I-74 westbound and John Deere Road westbound to I-74 westbound. The detour route for the Avenue of the Cities is north on 19th Street to 7th Avenue, then east on 7th Avenue to ramp entrance. The detour route for John Deere Road ramp closure is the Illinois 5 (John Deere Road)/I-74 clover leaf. Drivers are be asked to get on eastbound I-74 from John Deere Road then loop around by immediately taking eastbound John Deere Road to the on ramp for westbound I-74.
• Expect lane restrictions at the Interstate 80 and Iowa 130 (Northwest Boulevard) interchange in Davenport. Drivers also may experience intermittent, overnight lane closures on this ramp.
• Illinois 92 (the Centennial Expressway) from 16th Street in Rock Island to south of Interstate 280. The project includes bridge replacements at 7th, 18th and 31st avenues.
• Clark Street between Telegraph Road and Indian Road/Redwood Avenue in Davenport closed for a bridge rehabilitation project. The bus route will move one block to the east to Rolff Street. Construction is expected to take at least three months.
Coming up
• Illinois 78/Cherry Street in Morrison, Ill., will be closed at the railroad crossing to through traffic from July 13-24 to allow the Union Pacific Railroad to make repairs on crossings located between Wall and Market streets. Traffic from the south will be detoured on Wall Street west to Orange Street, then north on Orange Street to Illinois 78. Traffic from the north will be detoured west to Orange Street, south on Orange Street and east on Wall Street to Illinois 78.
• Preparation for the construction of a new Interstate 80 bridge over the Cedar River in Cedar County is expected to restrict traffic beginning Monday, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation. Intermittent lane closures will be in place from 7 p.m. to 11 a.m. until the westbound lanes of I-80 are eventually closed at the bridge. Once the westbound bridge is closed, westbound traffic will be routed onto the old eastbound bridge. Eastbound traffic is now traveling on the new eastbound bridge and will not be affected by the work. Once the traffic shift occurs, this traffic pattern is expected to be in place until September 2010. During the lane closures and traffic shift, there will be a 12-foot lane width restriction in place.
• On Monday in Rock Island County, 71st Avenue N. (County highway DD) from 80th Avenue N. to 239th Street N. will be closed to through traffic. The road will be closed from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.
• Beginning Monday until Aug. 25, Illinois 40 in Whiteside County will be closed from 3rd to Locust streets and from 1st Avenue to Locust.
• Beginning Monday, Illinois 78 just south of U.S. 30, the railroad crossing will be closed for improvements.
• Beginning Friday, July 17, Lombard Street in Davenport will be closed west of Marquette Street to the east side of the Genesis West entrance and from the west side of Genesis to the entrance to ORA, east of Washington Street. The south half of Lombard east of Fillmore will have access to 2133 Fillmore, 1347 and 1343 Lombard. 1333 Lombard will have access only through the alley to High Street. The St. Ambrose Daycare will have access from Marquette Street. Genesis south entrance will remain open for trafic from Fillmore Street.
On July 18, Genesis south entrance will close for storm sewer work.
On July 22, Genesis south entrance will reopen. Lombard Street will reopen from Fillmore to Washington Streets.
On July 27, Lombard will reopen to traffic.
