CLINTON, Iowa — A Clinton man was arrested early today after a 3½- hour standoff with police.
Police were called to 128 Fayette St. at 9:51 p.m. Tuesday after a neighbor reported that Jonathan R. Harris, 31, was at the house arguing with his wife, Aquila Harris, 27, in violation of a no-contact order, Clinton police said.
When police arrived, Aquila Harris told police she had fled the home and that her husband had barricaded himself inside with their four children, ages 4, 6, 7 and 9, according to court records.
Police determined Harris and the children were inside an upstairs bedroom. When police checked the door to see if it was barricaded, Harris thrust a 2 ½-foot-long katana sword through the door, according to court records.
Harris plunged the sword through the door 28 times, but no one was injured.
At 1:26 a.m., Harris agreed to come out. He was arrested and charged with four counts of child endangerment and three counts of assault on a peace officer.
He was being held Wednesday in the Clinton County Jail on $100,000 bond.
