TODAY’S WEATHER FORECAST
Special weather statement from the National Weather Service at 10:57 a.m.
Thunderstorms redeveloping
A narrow band of thunderstorms was redeveloping along Interstate 80 between West Liberty, Iowa, and Geneseo, Ill. These storms were forming over an area that had received between 1 and 1.5 inches of rain earlier this morning. Periods of heavy rain already on wet ground will cause some flooding of poorly drained areas and flooding of small streams and ditches. Urban areas will also see some flooding of streets as storm drains become overwhelmed at times by the runoff.
Another line of storms west of Cedar Rapids and Iowa City will move east into the area around noon. These storms could bring additional heavy rains to the area.
10:12 a.m. UPDATE: John Deere Classic Tournament Director Clair Peterson is optimistic about getting some golf in today, even as an unsettled weather system wreaks havoc with getting play under way.
A low pressure system brought in two lines of fast-moving storms beginning around 4 a.m. today, said Chris Legro, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service Davenport office. The rain was tapering around 9:45 a.m., and there could be a two-hour-or-so window of decent weather until another round of storms come through in the early afternoon.
"There's a possibility of (the second round) skirting the Quad-Cities, but it doesn't look good," Legro said. The weather will remain "unsettled" until the cold front moves out sometime Sunday morning, Legro said.
8:15 a.m. UPDATE: It is currently raining around the Quad-City region.
Here's a special weather statement from the National Weather Service:
Numerous showers and thunderstorms are moving east across the area this morning and will continue through at least late morning. The stronger storms will continue to produce very heavy rainfall at rates of over an inch an hour. Areas from Iowa City to Davenport and to Sterling, Ill. can expect 1 to 2 inches of rainfall through 10:30 a.m.
As these storms pass by and dump heavy rain expect ponding of water on roads and in low-lying areas and rises in area streams and creeks. Please report any very heavy rainfall rates, water on roads, and any bankfull roadside ditches to local law enforcement for relay to the National Weather Service.
In addition to the heavy rain these storms are also producing frequent cloud to ground lightning. Move indoors and away from windows as these storms approach.
7 a.m. UPDATE: Severe thunderstorm warnings for Cedar and Jackson counties have expired. There are currently no severe weather warnings for the immediate Quad-City area.
5:45 a.m. UPDATE: Cedar and Jackson counties are now under a severe thunderstorm warning from the National Weather Service.
Good Friday morning, Quad-Cities. You're waking up to 65 degrees with fog and mist. Those attending today's John Deere Classic will want to bring an umbrella or other raingear as showers and thunderstorms are likely mainly after 7 a.m.
There is currently a nasty ban of thunderstorms in the Waterloo, Iowa, through Dubuque, Iowa, area that are moving southeast and could affect the Quad-City region. These storms could produce wind gusts up to 60 mph and hail up to the size of quarters along and north of U.S. 30 through mid-morning. The National Weather Service says if this storm system maintains its strength, it may be able to produce strong winds and hail as far south as Interstate 80 by late morning.
Otherwise it will be mostly cloudy, with a high near 83 degrees. The chance of precipitations is 60 percent with rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible, according to the National Weather Service.

Saturday will be partly cloudy with a high near 83 degrees and a low around 62 degrees.
