ELDRIDGE, Iowa - An incident that involved shots being fired inside the house of Eldridge Mayor Brad Noel is under investigation by the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation.

The incident was reported about 5:45 p.m. Monday at Noel's house at 101 S. 27th Ave., Eldridge, Police Chief Dave Kopatich said Tuesday. A television was damaged, but no one was injured. No one else was in the house at the time.

Noel was taken into custody by Scott County Sheriff's deputies and was transported for medical treatment, said Scott County Sheriff Dennis Conard, whose department is assisting in the investigation. He refused to say where he was taken or what type of treatment.

Kopatich said he called in DCI agents to investigate because he didn't feel comfortable because of the mayor's involvement.

The DCI will submit the results of its investigation to the Scott County Attorney's Office, where the decision of whether to file any charges will be made, DCI spokeswoman Jessica Lown said.

Noel is in his first term as mayor after serving on the Eldridge City Council. He could not be reached for comment Tuesday at his home or by cell phone.

City Administrator John Dowd said he knew Noel was going through some personal problems, but he did not foresee it leading to Monday's incident. The next City Council meeting is scheduled for Monday, and the mayor pro-tem will preside if Noel is not available.
