The Illinois State Police will conduct two roadside safety checks in Rock Island County during this weekend. Officers working this detail will be watchful for drivers who are operating unsafe vehicles, driving with a suspended or revoked driver's license, transporting open alcoholic beverages, or driving under the influence. Safety checks are designed to keep our roads safe by taking dangerous DUI offenders off the road.
Here are some ongoing Quad-City area road projects to keep an eye out on this morning:
• Bridge maintenance work will cause lane closures on U.S. 52/Iowa 64 over the Mississippi River near Sabula, in Jackson County. A single lane with temporary traffic signals are in place. The project is expected to be completed by Oct. 1, weather permitting.
• Construction work on eastbound Interstate 74 from the Mississippi River to John Deere Road in Moline has resumed. The contractor will be working at night to finish bridge deck repairs from the Mississippi River to 7th Avenue. The existing bridge roadway surface will be removed, the deck repaired, and a new wearing surface placed. This work is expected to be completed by the end of the week if the weather cooperates. In other work along Interstate 74 in Moline, traffic is being restricted to one eastbound lane from 7th Avenue to John Deere Road during pavement pavement repairs and resurfacing.
• Division Street in Davenport is closed to all but local traffic from Cheyenne to 53rd streets. All side streets between Cheyenne and 53rd will be inaccessible from Division. Traffic will be diverted to Pine Street for the duration of the project. Division also is currently closed from 53rd Street to Northwest Boulevard making Division Street inaccessible from any side streets north of 53rd Street. To access Wood Intermediate School use Northwest Boulevard to Division Street.
• Expect overnight lane restrictions on Interstate 80 at Scott County Road Z-30 in Bettendorf for bridge deck repair work. Lane closures are allowed Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. and Sunday nights from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. During lane closures, the open lane will have a 14-foot lane width restriction. The bridge deck repair is expected to be completed by late October.
• Rockingham Road is closed from Division Street to Lincoln Avenue for road repairs. Also, sewer work at Rockingham and Rolff continues.
• Valley Drive in Bettendorf is closed to through traffic until Nov. 25 from west of Park Avenue to east of Valley View Drive. Shoulder grading to widen the road will allow only gravel access dead-ending at specific driveways. Traffic will be detoured along Belmont, Middle and Crow Creek roads. The first stage will extend from Park Avenue eastward half way to Moencks Road.
• U.S. 67 from Interstate 80 to County Road F33 (near Princeton) in Scott County is reduced to one lane with flaggers for bridge maintenance operations. Night time construction work begins at 7 p.m. until Oct. 21.
• Interstate 280 in between I-80 and the Illinois border in Scott County. Road construction will close one lane in either direction at nights beginning at 7 p.m. until Sept. 8.
• Locust Street between Marquette and Washington streets in Davenport is down to one lane in either direction for resurfacing.
• Work has been extended off of 23rd Avenue in Moline onto 19th Street north and south. The work includes continued concrete patching in preparation for a new asphalt surface.
• Concrete patching and roadside work on Iowa 22 in Scott County could cause brief, intermittent lane closures from three miles west of Interstate 280 to the Franklin Street intersection in Buffalo until October.
• Interstate 280 from Illinois 92 to Airport Road will see lane restrictions for roadway improvements until Dec. 24.
• Work has begun on (Illinois 92) 5th Avenue at 4th Street in Moline. The drainage improvement project closed the north lane of 5th Avenue as well as 4th Street. Work will switch to the south lane at a later date.
• U.S. 67 in Rock Island County from Illinois 94 to 78th Avenue - expect lane restrictions until Oct. 2.
• Illinois 92 (the Centennial Expressway) from 16th Street in Rock Island to south of Interstate 280. The project includes bridge replacements at 7th, 18th and 31st avenues.
