CAMBRIDGE, Ill. — Marie M. Gustafson, 92.Springfield, formerly of Cambridge, died Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2001, at Heritage Manor Continuing Care, Springfield.
Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the Cambridge Lutheran Church. Rev. Beth Shaw will officiate. Visitation is 10 a.m. Thursday until the time of the services at the church. Burial will be in the Oakwood Cemetery, Geneseo.
Stackhouse-Moore Funeral Services, Cambridge, is in charge of the arrangements.
The former Marie M. Gernant was born on Nov. 30, 1908, in Geneseo, the daughter of William and Martha (Maetzold) Gernant. Her marriage to Lester Gustafson took place on June 19, 1930, in Geneseo. He died Oct. 14, 1986.
She attended Illinois State University at Normal. She taught country schools in the Geneseo area and kindergarten through sixth grade in Cambridge schools.
She was a member of the Cambridge Lutheran Church and the Cambridge Woman's Club. She had served as the PTA president, a Boy Scout leader, a Girl Scout leader, and a leader in 4-H.
Mrs. Gustafson enjoyed her winters in Florida, painting, sewing, crafts and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the church or the Arthritis Foundation.
Survivors include her daughter, Mary Ann DeFend, Springfield; a daughter-in-law, Cynthia Gustafson, Freeport; her grandchildren, Anastasia (Joe) Patterson, Fort Myers, Fla., Tyler DeFend, Schaumburg, Ky (Susan) Gustafson, Forreston, Marcia (Ethan) Fuller, Clarendon Hills, and Karl Gustafson, Boston; and great-grandchildren, Ky, Laura and Kayleigh Gustafson and Hanna and Joshua Fuller.
In addition to her husband, Marie was preceded in death by two sons, Gary and Bob; and a brother, Marvin Gernant.
