National Honor Society

Simone Renault, a recent graduate of Clinton High School and member of the Clinton High School National Honor Society, was chosen one of 150 state finalists for the National Honor Society Scholarship from the National Association of Secondary School Principals.

National Honor Society chapters from across the country nominate members to compete in the program. The 150 finalists were chosen from among more than 6,000 applicants. Renault plans to attend the University of Iowa.

Byrd Scholars

The Illinois Student Assistance Commission announced the Illinois 2009-10 Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholars.

It is a federally funded, state-administered scholarship program designed to recognize high school seniors who have exceptional grades and show the promise of continued academic excellence.

This year's winners include Shravan Chintalapani, Rivermont Collegiate, Bettendorf; Carl Davis, Rock Island High School; Chase Geigle, Riverdale High School, Port Byron; Thomas Mathew, United Township High School, East Moline; Patrick Lillis and Michael Possin, both from Geneseo High School; Nora Beswick, Morrison High School; and Ann Say and Megan Vandersee, both from Sterling High School.

Lentz Memorial Music Scholarship

Tyler Mootz, son of Jill and John Mootz, Clinton, Iowa, is the 41st recipient of the Jean Hammer Lentz Memorial Music Scholarship, presented by the Beta Rho Chapter of Epsilon Sigma Alpha.

The scholarship is awarded annually to a Clinton High School senior planning to attend an accredited college or university to further his or her music education. Mootz plans to major in music education at Iowa State University, Ames.

Jean Hammer Lentz was an active participant in music groups in Clinton High School. After her graduation in 1940, she continued to use her vocal talents at church and civic functions in the Clinton area. At the time of her death in an automobile accident during 1969, she was an elementary school teacher in Clinton and an active member of Epsilon Sigma Alpha sorority.
