The Rock Island County Metropolitan Mass Transit District will receive $3.3 million in federal stimulus funds for replacing some of its bus fleet and for transit improvements at the Quad-City International Airport.
The grant, part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, will fund the purchase of eight 40-foot replacement buses for Metro and the installation of a passenger shelter bus stop at the airport in Moline.
The grant, announced by Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood, is one of 343 grants totaling $3.2 billion made available for transit improvements across the country.
Nationwide, the Transportation Department has made $48.1 billion available for highway, road, shipyard, bridge and airport construction and repairs. To date, 6,000 transportation projects have been approved.
