Power has been restored to SouthPark Mall in Moline and its surrounding outparcels, said Darcy Jacks, director of mall marketing.

“It just was restored about 45 minutes ago,” she said shortly before 9:30 a.m.

She expects all stores to be open this morning.

“We are fortunate now, and we hope this will help people (still without power in their homes) get out the heat and maybe get something to eat,” she said.

Meanwhile, Moline Police Lt. Brad Lambert said some street lights now are working, but the majority of still are not functioning because of the power outages. “There still are a lot of people and businesses without power.”

He said portions of John Deere Road also remained closed. He said 16th Street to the Interstate 74 ramps is open. However, it cannot be used as a throughway because of downed power lines. From the I-74 exits and entrances east to 38th Street, it remains closed. In addition, 70th Street east to about the John Deere World Headquarters also remains closed, he said.

Anybody who goes around barricades will be ticketed, police said. No warning tickets will be issued.

Milan police said that although some street lights now are operating, most of those without power Monday remain that way.

The Hy-Vee store in Rock Island is “up and running” today after it was forced to close for about six and a half hours Monday.

“We re-opened last night at eight,” store manager Deb Riedel said this morning. The store had been operating on generator power throughout the day Monday. “Then we had an issue with the generators.”

According to Riedel, lighting still is limited but the refrigeration cases are operational. “We did lose some product, but we were able to save a good share.”

Most employees were sent home when the store closed with the exception of a skeleton crew, she said.

Riedel said MidAmerican Energy Co. has indicated the store could have power restored by the end of the day.

Asked if operations were back to normal, she said, “We’re up and running.”
