Davenport’s new parks and recreation director will have a full plate when he comes on board later this fall.
In addition to overseeing a potential new direction for Credit Island, Subhajeet “Seve” Ghose will be in charge of the final phases of Centennial Park creation, updates to LeClaire Park, a new use for the Fejervary Zoo and a host of other responsibilities.
Ghose comes to Davenport from Portland, Ore., where he oversees parks and recreation services for more than 55 square miles of park land. He is a graduate of Iowa State University and has more than 20 years of experience in the parks and recreation field.
After spending 17 years in Ames, Ghose said he’s looking forward to moving back to Iowa with his family, including two children.
“I’ve seen the progress the city has made in the past 10 years in its parks, and I want to contribute to the positive change,” he said.
It’s obvious people in Davenport are passionate about their parks, and that’s a draw as well, he added.
Davenport’s current parks director, Dan Sherman, is retiring in October after serving the city for 32 years.
City Administrator Craig Malin said the combination of Ghose’s professional experience and Iowa roots made him an ideal candidate.
Ghose will be paid $98,223 per year and is scheduled to begin work Sept. 17.
