Man fleeing police hits windshield of squad car

A man was injured Tuesday when he collided with the windshield of a Davenport police squad car as he ran from officers, police said.
The incident occurred at 6:25 p.m. on Gaines Street between 5th and 6th streets.
The Iowa State Patrol is investigating the incident because it involved a Davenport police vehicle.
Davenport police said officers with the Neighborhood Energized to Succeed, or NETS, program stopped a Mitsubishi Diamonte being driven by a woman with a male passenger in an alley on Gaines Street just north of 6th Street.
The man, identified as Darius Gay, 21, of 909 14th St., Rock Island, jumped out of the car and fled on foot. Police chased Gay around the neighborhood. As Gay headed south on Gaines Street, Davenport police officer Gina Johnson placed her squad car on the west sidewalk to cut the man off. Gay hit the windshield of the squad, caving it in.
Investigating officers were reviewing the videotape taken by the camera in the squad car to determine exactly what
happened.
Gay was taken to Genesis Medical Center, East Rusholme Street, Davenport, for treatment of minor injuries. He is charged with interference with official acts and possession of drug paraphernalia.
The woman driver is facing traffic charges, police said.
