A motorcyclist was hit by a car at Locust Street and Bridge Avenue Saturday evening and taken to the hospital with wounds to his neck and leg.

The crash occurred about 7:40 p.m.

The motorcycle rider, a male whose name has not been released, was conscious and lying on the ground several feet from the damaged motorcycle, which laid in the middle of the intersection, before paramedics arrived.

The driver of the car was among a crowd of witnesses and bystanders that gathered at the gas station on the northeast corner.

Traffic was blocked for at least 30 minutes while paramedics arrived and took the man to Genesis Medical Center, East Rusholm Street.

At least one bystander who may have witnessed the accident kneeled beside the man, held his arm and stayed with him until paramedics arrived. The female bystander talked to the man, who appeared conscious.

One witness said he saw the man racing four other motorcycles down Locust Street and run a red light at Bridge Avenue, where he was struck by the car.

The condition of the man is unknown at this time.

The city desk can be contacted at (563) 383-2450 or newsroom@qctimes.com.
