President Bush has nominated a Bettendorf native to be an assistant secretary of state.

Brian H. Hook has been picked to be the assistant secretary of state for international organizational affairs, the White House announced Friday. The president intends to designate Hook the acting assistant, as well.

Hook, who is currently deputy assistant secretary of state in the Bureau of International Organizational Affairs, has already held several positions with the Bush administration.

Previously, he’d been counselor to the United Nations ambassador, and before he was in a policy role at the White House. Hook also held a Justice Department post.

The latest appointment still is subject to Senate confirmation.

Hook has a law degree from the University of Iowa, a master’s from Boston College and a bachelor’s degree from the University of St. Thomas in Minnesota.
