Scott County has been added to the list of Iowa counties eligible for Disaster Unemployment Assistance through Iowa Workforce Development.

“If you live or work in any of these counties and have lost your job due to the recent bad weather, you should apply for these federal benefits,” said Elisabeth Buck, director of Iowa Workforce Development.

Claims need to be filed by July 24. Benefits cover self-employed workers not usually entitled to unemployment insurance, including farmers. People applying need to provide proof of past earnings, such as business records or bank statements and their most recent income tax form. Any Iowa Workforce Development Center can accept claims or they can be filed on the Workforce Web site at  www.iowaworkforce.org.

Benefits are available for people who lost their jobs directly due to the disaster, were unable to reach their job because they couldn’t travel through the disaster area, were to begin employment but were prevented by the disaster or who were injured in the disaster and cannot work.

I am hosting Thanksgiving at my house.
I will be a guest at someone’s home.
I plan to eat out at a local restaurant.
I will eat at home but we are not cooking: Some or all of the food will be catered.
I hosted Thanksgiving for years. It is someone else’s turn.
    I have no plans.
