In the wake of weekend storm damage, the Solid Waste Division of Davenport Public Works will pick up bundled brush on regular pickup days.

Residents with heavy tree damage can place unbundled debris at the curb for future pickup.

The city asks that residents follow these basic requirements to help reduce costs:

• Tree limbs do not need to be bundled. The city normally requires bundling, but due to the severity of the storm, these requirements have been temporarily relaxed.

•  However, tree limbs must be placed in orderly piles with the ends toward the street or alley, whichever is the resident’s normal pickup location.

•  No tree limbs over 5 feet long (tree limbs must fit into the packer trucks).

•  No tree limbs over 6 inches in diameter (larger limbs can damage the trucks).

•  Small twigs and leaves must be placed in 2-ply kraft paper bags and do not need yard waste stickers during this week only.

•  Bags containing grass only must have city yard waste stickers.

Crews will not be able to pick up unbundled brush for a minimum of 10 days. All public works crews are needed to fight the Mississippi River flooding. An announcement will be made when the special pickup can begin.

Because the special pickup is delayed, the Compost Facility is also available for “free” tree limb waste disposal from Tuesday through June 21 to Davenport residents. Due to the recent Mississippi river flooding, customers need to use Wapello Avenue to access the compost facility. The facility hours are 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekends. Call compost at (563) 328-7225 for more information.

Residents with trees and very large limbs that have fallen down on private property should contact a private tree removal company.

One in 10 Americans will celebrate Thanksgiving Day at a restaurant and more than half will purchase restaurant-prepared takeout items. And the cost is up for those doing it all at home. What are you doing this year?
I am hosting Thanksgiving at my house.
I will be a guest at someone’s home.
I plan to eat out at a local restaurant.
I will eat at home but we are not cooking: Some or all of the food will be catered.
I hosted Thanksgiving for years. It is someone else’s turn.
