New Scott County administrator backs out of job

Mike Sullivan, who was named as the next Scott County administrator, has backed out of the job for family reasons, Board of Supervisors Chairman Jim Hancock said this morning.
Hancock wouldn’t say specifically what Sullivan’s reasons were for declining the position. Sullivan met with county department heads and elected officials a week ago, and he and his wife had looked at houses in the area.
Sullivan couldn’t be reached for comment this morning.
Hancock announced May 23 that Sullivan, the executive assistant to the Johnson County Board of Supervisors, had conditionally accepted the position as Scott County administrator and that he would likely start in July and work alongside current administrator Ray Wierson until Wierson’s retirement at the end of the year.
His negotiated contract, including salary, was expected to be voted on by supervisors at their June 26 board meeting.
Hancock said he has been in contact with the other supervisors and expects the process to fill the position again will be decided shortly. He expects the board will start from scratch.
The chairman thinks an administrator could be in place by sometime in August, but that might be hopeful since the search that brought the board to Sullivan took more than two months.
