A young woman from Bettendorf will be featured in a special edition of the Children’s Miracle Network Celebration this weekend.

Jamie Habenicht, 21, daughter of Steve and Dalette Habenicht of Bettendorf, has twice survived bouts with Ewing’s sarcoma, a rare form of bone cancer. She was first diagnosed as a 16-year-old in 2003 and then fought off a recurrence of the disease in June 2006.

The Habenichts are among nine Iowa and Illinois families who will share their experiences, all to raise funds for health services and medical research at the University of Iowa Children’s Hospital in Iowa City.

Jamie Habenicht was filmed during the Iowa Dance Marathon, a fundraiser for the hospital, her father said Thursday. An honor student at Bettendorf High School, she now attends the University of Iowa, majoring in finance and German.

The telethon will be broadcast in seven-hour sessions repeated over two days, starting at 11 a.m. Saturday and 11:30 a.m. Sunday. Viewers will see a local telephone number and Web site for more information and ways to contribute. It will be shown in eastern Iowa and western Illinois on Mediacom Connections cable channel 22.
