The morning of April 30 was disheartening for Habitat for Humanity Quad-Cities when crews discovered that approximately $10,000 in tools had been removed from construction trailers parked between building sites in Rock Island. Over the next week, however, the community came forward with an overwhelming amount of support in the form of donations, phone calls and gifts of new and used tools. The generosity shown in our time of need is a reminder of the many giving humanitarians that call the Quad-Cities home.

Habitat for Humanity would especially like to thank the Community Foundation of the Great River Bend for the kind contribution to replace the tools not covered by insurance, as well as our deductible. This support enabled our volunteers and partner families to move forward with construction on the six homes either in progress or scheduled to begin this year.

We would also like to thank the individuals and business who offered support during this time of need. We offer special thanks to RJ Lee & Associates of Moline, Shaun & Victoria Graves, Rock Island Rotary, and Mark and Anne Nagan of Bettendorf. In addition, MidAmerican Energy came forward with $5,000.

The caring spirit shown by the Quad-Cities reminds us that the bad act of one should not cast a shadow on the caring acts of many. With your gifts, Habitat can make a difference in the lives of families and our community one house at a time.

One in 10 Americans will celebrate Thanksgiving Day at a restaurant and more than half will purchase restaurant-prepared takeout items. And the cost is up for those doing it all at home. What are you doing this year?
I am hosting Thanksgiving at my house.
I will be a guest at someone’s home.
I plan to eat out at a local restaurant.
I will eat at home but we are not cooking: Some or all of the food will be catered.
I hosted Thanksgiving for years. It is someone else’s turn.
    I have no plans.
