Iowa barn group schedules tour, picnic

The Iowa Barn Foundation, a nonprofit group dedicated to the preservation of Iowa’s farm buildings, will host a free, self-guided tour of barns along “Old Highway 30,” the original Lincoln Highway, on Saturday-Sunday, June 7-8.
Hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
In conjunction with the tour there will be a picnic and barn dance featuring the Barn Owls from 5:30-9 p.m. Saturday, June 7, in the Community Center, Story County Fairgrounds, Nevada.
To reach the fairgrounds, turn off Old U.S 30. at First Avenue, Nevada, and go south to I Avenue.
The cost of the picnic is $10; $5 for children. Checks should be made out to the Iowa Barn Foundation and sent to Roxanne Mehlisch, 17590 730th Avenue, Zearing, 50278, by May 25.

As part of the tour, there will be two barns from Clinton County and four from Cedar County.
The Clinton County barns are the Campbell Barn, 2457 Highway 30, DeWitt, and the Donahue Barn, 2538 238th St., between DeWitt and Grand Mound.
The Cedar County barns are the Merlin Hulse Barn, 1770 150th St., Clarence; the Forest Johnson Barn, 503 Old Lincoln Highway, Mechanicsville; the Louise Robinson Barn, 493 Fox Ave., Mechanicsville; and the Keith and Lois Whitlatch Barn, 707 King Ave., Stanwood.
