Davenport Police searching for an armed robber Friday night in the area of 11th and Perry streets came across a van from which the smell of marijuana was emanating and seized two firearms from the vehicle.
Police said that at about 10:30 p.m. there was a report of an armed robbery of a man walking along Perry Street.
The robber allegedly brandished a 9 millimeter handgun and demanded money, police said. The robber is described as a black male with no facial hair, about 19-20 years old, and wearing a black hooded sweatshirt. The alleged robber ran west toward the 1st Stop convenience store at 12th and Brady streets.
Police converged on the area of the store. An officer who had gone into the parking lot of the store smelled marijuana emanating from a parked Ford Econoline Van.
Five people in the van were detained, and police seized two handguns from the back of the vehicle.
The alleged robber was not among those in the van. Police were still determining Friday night who was to be charged from the van.
Anyone with information about the robbery is asked to call the Davenport Police Department at (563) 326-7979 or Crime Stoppers at (309) 762-9500.
