In response to Judi Cooley (“Punish West students for protest behavior,” April 30), how can you claim to be a Christian? The most widely known statement Jesus made was to “love your neighbor as yourself.”

There was no spitting on protesters, as Cooley wrote, as the pro-acceptance protesters were made to stand a minimum of 20 feet away.

What was absolutely horrifying were the signs held by these protesters. Their signs stated, “God hates gays,” “Gays go to hell,” and “I would rather do meth than be gay.”

On the other hand, the most offensive sign held by the supporters of The Day of Silence was, “Taste the Rainbow.”

You say Christian kids are harassed and not given groups. Fellowship of Christian Athletes is active at West, allowing Christian students to freely express their religion.

As for the special privileges you said were being given to “the gays,” I assume you speak of The Day of Silence. This is one day set aside to raise awareness about bullying of those who are gay, bisexual or transsexual.

Next time you decide to state your opinion, think through your argument before condemning people. You should read the gospel before claiming to support it. You can’t support something you do not understand.
