Former Northeast standout Tyler Howe helped the 17th-ranked Kentucky baseball team to a series win over No. 10 Vanderbilt over the weekend. Howe, a Clinton, Iowa, native who played two seasons at Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, before joining the Wildcats last season, went 1-for-3 in UK’s 6-2 victory Saturday.

On the season, the 6-foot, 215-pound catcher/right-handed pitcher is batting .289 with three home runs and 16 RBIs. He has played in 32 of 44 games, making 30 starts. On the mound, he has a 4.91 ERA, having recorded four strikouts in 32/3 innings.

Last year, Howe platooned with first-team All-America catcher Sean Coughlin, starting 29 of the 36 games in which he appeared. He batted .241 with a home run and 22 RBIs.

The Wildcats are 33-11, 11-10 in the Southeastern Conference, with 12 games left in the regular season.
