If you’re a Quadrants video fan (That’s right, you can watch our antics at qctimes.com/quadrants.), you’ve heard us mention a time or six that we’d be showing all the hip kids the coolest update in modern transportation: the drill-powered skateboard.
This little project — made famous at one of our favorite Web sites (instructables.com) — is a mere five minutes in the making.
Basically, all you need to make this conversion happen is:
1. A skateboard
2. Some PVC pipe (You know, the stuff that passes for plumbing these days.)
3. A battery-powered drill ... or, we suppose, one hell of a long extension cord.
Three factors will enhance your battery-powered skateboarding:
1. More volts. Higher-voltage, battery-powered drills (at least 9.6V) will provide more minutes of skateboarding fun.
2. Greater torque. Drills that can generate more torque will be able to move, ahem, heavier riders.
3. Big, bad rubber wheel. The more rubber that meets the highway, the higher the performance.
As we’ve said before, it’s simple, and a quick read on Instructables will show you step by step how to achieve maximum fun.
It’s basically you (and your helmet), your skateboard, an attached handle (the PVC pipe) and the drill with an attachment stuck to the nut on one of the skateboard wheels.
