BERWYN, Ill. (AP) — Workers have dismantled and removed a towering sculpture of eight cars made famous in the movie “Wayne’s World.”

The sculpture, also called the Spindle or Car Kabob, featured cars from the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s skewered on a huge metal spike.

It was removed Friday evening from the Berwyn shopping plaza where it has stood since 1989. California artist Dustin Shuler built the 50-foot-piece.

Over the years it has become rusted and covered with pigeon droppings

Officials had tried to sell the art piece on eBay two weeks ago for $50,000. But no one bid on the tower advertised as an internationally “known roadside monument.”

The space will be the site of a new Walgreens pharmacy.

Michael Flight of the shopping plaza’s management company, Concordia Realty said a new version of the Spindle could be constructed if funding to clean and repaint some of the cars can be raised.
