A man who police described as an acquaintance of Katherine Pedigo and lived in the same building is accused of stabbing the Moline woman to death in her apartment.

Eric D. Henry, 34, who has a criminal record including felony convictions, was charged Wednesday in Rock Island County Circuit Court with first-degree murder and felony residential burglary in connection with the weekend death of Pedigo, 25.

Pedigo was found in a first-floor apartment at 320 16th Ave. about 9 a.m. Sunday with a fatal stab wound to the neck. Henry lived in the same four-unit apartment building, but he had a different address, 1605 4th St.

When authorities responded to the scene, they found two small fires that had been set in the basement but were quickly extinguished. They found Pedigo’s body during a search of the building.

Moline police Lt. Jerome Patrick said the two people were acquainted from living in the same building,  but he declined to release further details about their relationship while the investigation is ongoing. He would not say whether any others might be arrested in connection with the case.

    Henry was arrested about

9 a.m. Wednesday when he returned to the residence, Patrick said. A sealed arrest warrant was filed in court Tuesday.

Henry remained in custody Wednesday night at the Rock Island County Jail in lieu of $3 million bond, but Moline police said he will not be released on bail due to a parole violation.

According to the Illinois Department of Corrections, Henry was released June 15 from the Lawrence Correctional Center after serving 13 years in prison.

Henry was sentenced during 1994 in Cook County on multiple charges, including armed robbery, possession of a stolen vehicle, aggravated battery of a person older than 60 and two burglary counts.

Patrick would not specify a motive or say whether police had interviewed Henry prior to the man’s arrest. Police had enough physical evidence to issue the arrest warrant, Patrick said, but he would not go into further detail.

Rock Island County State’s Attorney Jeff Terronez said Henry likely will make his first court appearance on the murder and burglary charges today.

Pedigo's funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home in Rock Island.
