Bids opened for new Louisa County Jail

WAPELLO, Iowa — Bids for the new Louisa County Jail have been opened and a Burlington firm provided the low general construction bid for the project.
First Construction of Burlington submitted a base bid of $1,379,000 for the construction of a 10,000-square-foot building and renovation of an existing building at the former Louisa County Care Facility north of Wapello.
In addition to the general construction bids, five other contracts also will be offered for security equipment, plumbing, electrical, HVAC and fire sprinkler systems.
Low bidder for the security equipment was Chief Industries, Grand Island, Neb., for $497,930. Boche Plumbing and Heating, Muscatine, submitted the low plumbing bid of $180,969. Other low bidders included: HVAC — Brockway Mechanical, Burlington, for $355,541; Electrical — Menninga Electric, Burlington, $554,700; and Fire Sprinklers Continental Fire Sprinkler, Davenport, $80,864.
