You might think that making a good paper plane would be easier than making …

Next week is spring break in the Davenport School District. That means more than 16,000 students will be looking for something to do. Bettendorf is already in the throes of rest and relaxation, and as its students wind down their own spring break, they also may be looking for some distraction.

No need to fear, Quadrants is here.

Now, we’ll be the first to admit that making a paper airplane is not an all-ages good time. But these will not be your ordinary fold a sheet a few times and end up with a pointy-nosed, jet-looking sort of thing.

Not even close.

Our good friends at Instructables.com have made the art of paper airplane-making a simple step-by-step process. (Another good site is theonlinepaperairplanemuseum.com, where more than 800 variations are available online for the copying.)

As a refresher, Instructables is a good Web site to visit if you like to challenge your mind and make something unique and fun.

In this case, we’re looking at the paper airplane. Did you know that the world record for longest flight by a paper airplane is 102 feet? Well, it is. And that blueprint is right there for you to copy.

Or, if you fancy yourself a NASA-type scientist, you can copy the Flying Cone model. There are many choices to go over. For example: the Exploding Box Plane, Asgard Starship, Super Easy Super Glider, Paper Fighter and the F-16 Falcon.

The best way to find all of these options is to go to Instructables.com and enter the site’s “Toss It! Speed Contest.” That search will give you a screenful of choices.
