A $2,000 reward has been offered for information that leads to the arrest of a gun-wielding assailant who robbed a west Davenport store just before 9 p.m. Saturday.

The masked man walked into Elmo’s Wireless, 2147 W. 3rd St., just prior to closing time, brandished a handgun and demanded money from the clerk, Davenport Police Sgt. Al Welke said.

Inside the store, the clerk explained to store owner Elmo Vastine and store manager Joe VanHecke that the man pulled the gun and demanded the deposit bag.

The robber then made the clerk lie on the ground, and then fled.

“He wasn’t playing,” the clerk told Vastine. “He told me, ‘I ain’t playing, and then he made me lie on the floor.”

VanHecke said the man got away with about $5,000.

No one was injured.

However, the store’s video camera recorded the robbery.

VanHecke said the store would pay $2,000 for information leading to the arrest of the robber.

“I want to get the guy,” he said, adding that he hopes the guy’s size and walk shown in the video will be recognized by someone.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Davenport Police Department at (563) 326-7979, or Crime Stoppers at (309) 762-9500.
