A friend of mine worked at the Handicapped Development Center doing piece-work for John Deere. She loved her job, and every Friday she got a small paycheck and paid her taxes. She also loved the friends who worked there. Her self-image was great.

But the Legislature said they couldn’t afford to fund her and her friends any further. Now she goes to dayhab, watches television, plays games, gets no paycheck, pays no taxes and has a poor self-image. The Legislature needs to remember that they are supposed to help all Iowans, especially the neediest, and not discriminate against them.

Please restore funding for the mentally handicapped and mentally disabled Iowans.

What did you do on Black Friday?
Out shopping as soon as the stores opened.
Waited until the early rush crowds thinned out and then went shopping.
Took my time and went shopping later in the day.
    Did all my shopping online.
Spent the day doing anything BUT shopping.
