BLOG REPORT: 6:46 a.m. -- Today we tackle the Wapsipinicon River. Beginning at the mouth of the river between Princeton and Folletts, Iowa at the Mississippi River, we will trace the Wapsi up to Independence, Iowa.

Last night as we crossed the bridge south of Folletts, we could see in the moonlight the river was out of its banks. Rick Rector's Early Morning Update today shows the river above flood stage in DeWitt, and is affecting areas in Calamus and Toronto. There is a call for rain today, which can't be good for the already swollen river. And I hear that there is snow in the forecast for Friday. What fickle weather!

Speaking of weather, today is the first official day of spring. Although the buds on my lilac bushes are showing, I have yet to see any crocuses or other early-rising flowers. We will keep our eyes open for them today, though. It is warm enough in the sunny spots for them to begin popping.

You can follow along as we post updates throughout the day with a running blog, photos and a video.

Onward and upward, here we come, grand ole Wapsi!

TTYS.
