Mercer County hires development director

Jenny Garner has been hired as joint economic development director for Mercer County. Her job is to provide leadership in assessing, developing, implementing and evaluating community and economic development needs and opportunities.
Aledo and Mercer County agreed on the partnership in March 2007. Funding includes Aledo, $40,000; Mercer County, $14,000; and MERGO, the county’s economic development group, $25,000. A $75,000 matching grant came from University of Illinois Extension, and another grant of $75,000 has been received.
Garner had been vice president of marketing and development for the Mississippi Regional Blood Center since 1997. Before that she worked at Palmer College of Chiropractic in marketing and community relations.
Garner’s office will be located at 2106 SE 3rd St., Aledo.
