Despite a search effort that was conducted over the weekend, Clinton police still are searching for clues about a man who was reported missing Feb. 9.
Benjamin Roseland, 19, of 1921 Pershing Blvd., was last seen leaving the 400 block of 10th Avenue South heading for the Hy-Vee grocery store, 901 S. 4th Street. He apparently never made it to the store.
A large group of volunteers began searching the area east and south of the store about 11:15 a.m. Saturday. About 11:38 a.m., searchers found a shoe in a vacant yard at 13th Avenue South and 3rd Street. A short time later, a second shoe was found on top of a snow bank on the east side of the street at 13th Avenue South and 2nd Street.
Roseland’s mother said that her son wore shoes similar to the pair that was discovered.
Officers from the Clinton Police Department, Clinton County Sheriff’s Office, Iowa State Patrol and Clinton Fire Department then conducted a more intensive search east of the area of 13th Avenue South and 2nd Street.
The Eko-Sar K-9 Search & Rescue team assisted in the search. Also, ADM security helped with a search of ADM’s property.
The Med-Force medical helicopter also helped. A helicopter pilot, assisted by a Clinton police officer as a spotter, flew above the area where Roseland last was seen.
Saturday, the Clinton Fire Department rescue boat crew attempted to launch a search, but it was unsuccessful because of surface conditions at the 5th Street boat ramp.
Roseland is described as a 175-pound white male, 5 foot, 11 inches tall, with brown hair and blue eyes. He last was seen wearing camouflaged coveralls.
He has no car and did not take any personal belongings. There has been no activity on his cell phone or bank cards, police said. None of his friends know where he is.
Anyone with information about Roseland should contact the Clinton Police Department, (563) 243-1458.
The city desk can be contacted at (563) 383-2450 or newsroom@qctimes.com.
