Circa ’21 Dinner Playhouse in Rock Island will conduct a contest, “Clash of the Church Choirs,” in connection with its upcoming gospel musical comedy “Smoke on the Mountain.”
Preliminary rounds of the contest will be Saturday, April 5, at Circa ’21, 1828 3rd Ave., Rock Island. Seven choirs selected in the preliminary round will move on and compete in the finals April 29 at the theater. The winning choir will receive $500.
A sing-off for all choirs entering the contest will begin at 10 a.m. to determine the seven finalists. Audition songs may be no longer than three minutes, and songs from the show are not eligible for use in the competition. There will be no admission charged for the sing-off, and concessions will be sold in the lobby.
“Smoke on the Mountain” cast members will serve as judges for the preliminary round. Each of the seven cast members will select one choir, and those seven choirs will be invited to the finals April 29.
For more information, call (309) 786-7733, Ext. 312. Choirs will be registered on a first-come, first-serve basis.
