A small chlorine leak Monday at a Rock Island water treatment plant resulted in no injuries and was quickly taken care of by firefighters and city staff.
Capt. Bob Graff of the Rock Island Fire Department said crews were called to the 2200 block of 16th Avenue shortly after 11 a.m. Monday after water employees received a chlorine sensor alarm.
Graff said two firefighters quickly went into a small room and shut off a valve that was leaking. The leak was small enough that firefighters did not have to wear protective suits. Crews were on the scene for 40 minutes.
A chlorine scrubber system in the room took care of the spill, the captain said, adding firefighters had to approach slowly because of ice in the area.
No one was injured, and the area was not evacuated.
