Pastor Larry Wiese’s service to be celebrated

ORION, Ill. –– First Baptist Church of Orion, located at 1101 4th St., is observing the 20th anniversary of Pastor Larry Wiese’s service to the church.

The church will host an anniversary celebration on Feb. 24 with a special service from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. and an open house from noon to 2 p.m.

Pastor Wiese, a native of Davenport, received his bachelor’s degree in history from the University of Northern Iowa, Cedar Falls. He spent his seminary years at Dallas Theological Seminary and Covenant Theological Seminary of St. Louis, from which he received a master’s degree in theology. He specialized in Hebrew and Greek and wrote his thesis on the book of Luke after studying Luke and the book of Acts for five years.

For seven years he served as pastor of a small Baptist church in Davenport. In 1982, he became the owner and operator of a bookstore, the Collector’s Attic. He became the pastor of First Baptist Church of Orion in October 1987.
