It may be hard to believe by walking outside this week, but those lazy, hazy days of summer are drawing near. Wouldn’t it be nice to spend your summer free of those bothersome bugs, while still enjoying that summer breeze? That is exactly what homeowners Eldon and Judy Greiman of LeClaire enjoy in their screen room. D+K Products of Davenport completed the project.
Many builders in the area use screen rooms from D+K Products when building new homes — this way all the work is done before the new homeowner moves in.

Q: Would you say that you use your screen room often?
A: Yes, we had a screened-in porch in our old house that we used a lot, so we were happy to see the screen room when we bought this house. There is also a sunroom in this home, so we really enjoy the best of both.
Q: Do you use the screen room at all during the winter and fall months?
A: Yes, actually we do. The house makes up two-sides of the screen room, so we are really sheltered from the cold.
Q: What do you like most about having the screen room?
A: The idea that you can enjoy being outside without really being outside is very appealing. We also sit out in the evening and take pleasure in our river view.
Q: You have an outdoor deck as well. Which do you use when entertaining?
A: We had a big family reunion and a lot of our guests used the screen room to sit and eat their meal; it certainly helps keep the bugs away.

Q: How are screen rooms different then sunrooms or four-season rooms?
A: Unlike sunrooms, screen rooms are not usually year-round.
Q: What are some of the benefits of installing a screen room vs. a sunroom/four-season room?
A: Screen rooms have the benefit of being less expensive then a full sunroom, and sunrooms can get very hot, unlike a screen room that lets in a breeze. There is also the benefit of being outside while keeping the pesky bugs at bay — plus you can watch the kids run around the back yard. Screen rooms create that sitting-on- the-front-porch feel to the back yard. Overall, they are a great, maintenance-free feature for entertaining guests.
Q: What materials do your screen rooms consist of?
A: The framework is made of aluminum, which is virtually maintenance-free. Some of the other options we provide are: different grades of screens, patio covers, roofs, and a glass option.
