Genealogy society hear DVD presentation

The LeClaire Township Historical and Genealogy Society will meet at 7 p.m. Feb. 7, at the LeClaire Community Library, 323 Wisconsin St.

Doug Britz from River of Time Video will present a program on preserving family history and genealogy on DVDs. For more information or for reservations, call Janet at (563) 289-4236 or visit leclairegenealogy.com.

Park board collecting cans, bottles Saturday

The Park Committee will collect cans and bottles from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday. The money from glass, plastic and aluminum cans and cleaned pie pans will help pay for improvements to LeClaire’s parks.

The collection takes place on North 3rd Street across from the Veteran’s Memorial Baseball Complex.

Library will have explorer program for children

Children age 6 and older and their families are invited to attend Explorers events at the LeClaire Community Library. The program is a hands-on learning experience of exploring science and culture.

There is no cost for the program, but space is limited. The next program is 6:30-7:30 p.m. Feb. 19. Because 2008 is the Year of the Rat, Professor BOOM! and Lab Rat will take explorers on a journey to China and highlight Tet, the Chinese New Year. Explorers also will learn how to count in Chinese, explore Asian culture, make a dragon costume and discover some great books.

Police report

Dec. 28

n A single-vehicle collision occurred at mile marker 306 on Interstate 80 when a 1996 International truck lost control and hit a guardrail. The incident caused about $1,500 in damage.

Dec. 15

n A single-vehicle collision occurred in the 2000 block of South Cody Road when a 2001 Ford SUV hit a light pole. The incident caused about $2,500 in damages.
