What do these two days, Super Tuesday and Ash Wednesday, of the same week have in common? The answer is life!
That is human life. What we are, what we live, what we respect and how we are to live in eternity. You see, Super Tuesday in Illinois represents a chance to participate in our democratic republic’s system of representation, wherein our votes are conferred to another who will represent us in Washington, D.C. for the upcoming presidential elections and beyond into his or her term of office.
While there are many issues to sort out between the candidates, none is as important as the right to life. In short, this is our chance to elect someone who stands for life or for someone who stands for death for unborn children. In order to reverse, Roe, we will need to have elected officials who understand that human life is unique from conception.
Ash Wednesday is a chance to participate in another election — or should I say, to participate with the elect. That is, with those who have recognized in Christ Jesus his salvation and lordship. For Roman Catholics, Ash Wednesday is a particular day of fasting and abstinence and leads into the 40 days of Lent and ends with Good Friday, Holy Saturday, and Easter Sunday.
