A fire caused an estimated $40,000 damage to an East Moline home early Wednesday, fire Capt. Curt Frerichs said.

No one was injured in the blaze that started about 3 a.m. at 336 21st St., he said.

While the cause remains under investigation, Frerichs said the fire started in a bedroom on the second floor of the single-family dwelling.

The three occupants were able to get out of the home safely.

“When the guys arrived, there was heavy fire shooting out the front of the house on the second story,” he said. “The two houses next to it were evacuated. But the guys did a great job of knocking it down and saved a lot of possessions in the downstairs.”

All of the damage was confined to the upstairs area, he added.

The Red Cross was called in to provide emergency services to the three residents of the home.
