A new video is putting the spotlight on the Quad-Cities as a place to come work, live and do business.Summers said the video will be available for use by businesses and agencies that need it for marketing or recruiting. “Part of our charge is to market the Quad-Cities as one region, so we want everybody on the same page,” Summers said of the new marketing tool.Jennifer DeWitt can be contacted at (563) 383-2318 or jdewitt@qctimes.com. Entitled “Quad-Cities — Home Along the River,” the 11-minute video will be used by development leaders and other groups in marketing the Quad-City region to attract new jobs, investment and residents. It was created by the Quad-City Development Group, the Rock Island Arsenal Development Group and other related agencies.
Ron Summers, of the development group, said the video is part of the area’s Economic Adjustment Strategy and was created in response to the latest Base Realignment and Closure, or BRAC, process at the Rock Island Arsenal.
“With the 1st Army coming here as part of BRAC, this will be a good introduction piece to them to the Quad-Cities,” he said.
The video includes a segment on the Arsenal, the area’s largest employer, as well as information on other key employers, housing choices, schools and other amenities, including cultural and entertainment venues and the Mississippi River.
But the video also is designed as a recruiting tool to be used with companies considering the Quad-Cities, Summers said. A specific target will be the financial and logistics industries. “Potentially, we’re going to have some displaced workers on the Arsenal” who could be an available work force for new companies, he added.
Summers said it has been at least a decade since the development group has had such a promotional tool, although the Quad-Cities Convention & Visitors Bureau has produced a similar project with more of a tourism focus.
The video was made possible by a $40,000 federal grant from the U.S. Department of Labor, which was administered by the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity. Silver Oaks Communications of Moline produced it.
It can be viewed at Bi-State Regional Commission’s Web site, bistateonline.org. Eventually, it also will be on the Web sites of the development group, the area chambers and possibly local governments.
