It’s not just for Picassos-in-training.
That’s the mantra from the Figge Art Museum in Davenport, which is having an open house Sunday afternoon to show off all of the classes available there.
“The museum is a place for the community, not just for those who are exceptional at art or just want to be painters. We have classes for all ranges of people,” said Molly Vadnais, the coordinator of the Studio School at the Figge.
There are classes for children, art beginners, students who want to work on techniques, master classes for professionals, high school-age artists who want to improve their portfolios, and those who want to learn design and art history.
“We’re trying to cater to a wide variety of students at the Figge with our winter classes,” Vadnais said.
There’s also a non-art class series called “How to Do Anything Better.” Scheduled for Saturday mornings — and designed for parents who take their children to classes — it teaches participants how to host a dinner party, accessorize a wardrobe, learn about coffees or wines, and how to critique movies.
“It’s just for fun,” Vadnais said.
Past participants have ranged in age from 5 to 95. The cost is anywhere from $8 for a lecture to $60 for a five-week class.
The open house, from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Sunday, is done in a college fair atmosphere, Vadnais said, with participants learning about the 50 classes that will be offered this winter and meeting the instructors.
Discounts will be offered during the open house, and a drawing for free enrollment will be held, too.
